Betty Rose Hucke was born Dec. 31, 1927, in Dorchester, NE to John and Rose (Kovar) Haas. She was the fifth of seven children: Irene, Don, Charles, Dorothy, Shirley and Dallas. The Haas family moved to a farm near Hemingford when Betty was 2-years-old. After graduating from Hemingford High School in 1945 Betty worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Lyle Neff in Alliance. Betty married Farren Carl Hucke at the Hemingford Methodist Church Oct. 11, 1949. The couple resided in Hemingford and worked on the Hucke family farm. In 1953, Farren and Betty and their daughter, Janet moved to farm and ranch on Bordeaux Creek south of Chadron. Their family grew to include Connie, Susan and Jennifer. Growing up on a farm with six brothers and sisters Betty learned the value of hard work. Her work ethic was evident in her daily life. Betty was known far and wide for her delicious cooking. She took pride in the maintenance of her home; both inside and out. Family was the core of her existence. She took joy in family gatherings. Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church, as a young wife and mother she was a member of the Jolly Dozen Bordeaux Creek women's club, a 4-H club leader, caterer of many community events, and manager/cook of the Chadron Sale Barn Caf�½. Betty is survived by her daughters: Janet (John) McGary, Connie (Tim) Rounds, Susan Hucke, Jennifer (Wayne) Buckmaster; grandchildren: John (Kelli) McGary, Kendra (Dusty) Morris, Melissa (Eric) Peterka, Amanda (Andy) Metcalf, Derek (Erin) Rounds, Lynsie Moritz, Brittany (Travis) Vlaminck; great-grandchildren: Drew and Tyra Morris, Jon and Anna Peterka, Brooklyn Shifflet and Levi Metcalf, Jason and new arrival 2/25/15 Rounds, Grayson and Cora Moritz, Sullivan Vlaminck, and grand dog, Sadie; sisters: Shirley Schultz and Irene Christensen and a host of nieces and nephews, friends and her Bordeaux Road neighborhood family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Farren; her parents, John and Rose Haas; parents-in-law, Carl and Edith Hucke; infant granddaughter, Megan Marie Rounds; brothers, Charles (Alice, Nancy), Don (Lucille); Dallas; sister, Dorothy (Louis) Stumf; brother-in-laws Cliff Schultz and Algo Christensen; and nephews Dan Haas and Duane Davies. Betty Rose Haas Hucke was welcomed into heaven Feb. 21, 2015. A celebration of her life will be today, Feb. 25, at the Chadron United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. with Dr. Reverend Mark Crist officiating. Interment will be at the Hemingford Cemetery at approximately 1:45 PM. Memorials are suggested to Chadron Fire and Rescue Unit, the United Methodist Church, Camp Norwesca or the Donor's Choice.
