Betty Florine Barnes 84, of Martin, SD passed away November 24, 2016 at her home in Martin. Betty Florine Barnes was born June 5, 1932 at Martin to Earl and Floretta (Hicks) Briggs. Betty married Robert (Bob) Barnes January 23, 1946 to this union was born one son, Randy L Barnes. They worked on a ranch south of Merriman for several years until moving back to the Barnes family ranch east of Tuthill after Bob's father passed away in 1949. They made their home there until 1983.
Betty was very active in the communities of Tuthill and Vetal. She was a great cook and they enjoyed having friends over for a meal and a game of cards and visiting. She also enjoyed working with her husband in the hay field and they delivered many reluctant baby calves for themselves and all the neighbors. She also enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing ball. She was a 4-H leader when Randy was young also.
After moving to Martin, Betty worked as a nurse aide at the hospital for a time then went to work for Dr. John Knecht and Wendy at the clinic. She worked there many years until her retirement. After retiring she enjoyed traveling with her aunt Stella Hicks, doing ceramics and bowling on the senior league. She also followed her grandson, Randy to all his mud races. Never missing one race.
Survivors include 2 grandchildren Randy R (Dixie) Barnes and Robyn McDonald of Casper WY, great grandchildren Roseanna and Mackenzie Todd, Destynea Barnes, and Kathryn McDonald, a sister Hope Kaltenbach, sister-in-law Julie Briggs, numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Floretta Briggs, her husband Robert Barnes, her son Randy L Barnes, sisters June Ceplecha and Frances Mattley, and brothers Norman and Phil Briggs.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday Dec. 1 at the New American Legion with Brett Burress officiating, Inurnment to follow at the Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Cody NE.
