Bernice Petersen

July 22, 1921 — January 18, 2017

Bernice Lea (Hare) Petersen was born July 22, 1921, to James W. and Wilma (Hankins) Hare in Sheridan County, Nebraska. She passed away January 18, 2017 at Gordon Countryside Care, Gordon, Nebraska.

Bernice graduated from Rushville High School then worked at home for her dad. She married Andrew Petersen on May 9, 1944 in Rushville, Nebraska. To this union twin daughters Carmen and Carol were born.

She was well known for her baking and cooking, especially apple pies, gardening, flowers, sewing and crocheting. She was a great neighbor and was active in the community as well as being a 4-H leader. She was a very hard working supportive family member. She moved to Gordon Countryside Care in 2007, where she stayed involved with activities, friends and church.

She is survived by her daughters, both of Denver, CO, one sister Edna Buysse of Longmont, CO, grandchildren Traci (David) Jones of Taylorsville, Utah and Erik (Audrey) Brakeman of Catawba, SC, 8 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Dean Hare and sister Jerene Hare Waddill.

Memorial services will be held Saturday May 27, 2017, at Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, 10:00 AM. Inurnment will be held in the Gordon Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Tri-State Old-Time Cowboys Museum next to the city park.

A memorial has been established for the Tri-State Old-Time Cowboys Museum and donations may be sent to PO Box 202 Gordon, NE 69343. Bernice and Andy were both long time members.
