Arlan Otto Marx passed away on June 10, 2017, at Heart Center of the Rockies, Loveland, Colorado.
Arlan was born on February 27, 1927, in Scribner, Nebraska, the first child of Otto Ferdinand and Augusta Louise (Froeming) Marx. He attended parochial school until he started high school in Scribner. After his freshman year of high school, the family moved to Bridgeport, Nebraska.
Arlan graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1944. After graduation, he followed his family to Hay Springs. The family moved south of Clinton in 1950. Arlan farmed with his father until asked by Mills Crane to move to their farm (3.5 miles south of Arlan's parents).
At a St Patrick's Day Dance in 1959, Arlan danced with Leta Dreyer. They dated until Friday, May 13, 1960, when they eloped to Hot Springs, South Dakota.
They lived on the Crane place until 1989 when they moved 2 miles north to the old Sweeney place and converted Fairview District 126 Rural School to their present home - Marx Mountain.
Arlan was a cattle man and worked many years at sale barns in Gordon, Rushville, Chadron and Crawford. He was proud of his Black Angus cattle and was proud to have topped the Omaha Stock Market many times. In later years, he farmed with both of his sons.
Arlan is survived by his wife of 57 years, Leta; daughters Laura Neubauer, Kearney, Marla Marx, Scottsbluff, sons Neal Marx, Rushville; and Gale Marx (Kim), Rushville. Grandchildren Sean Mayben (Tessa) Yukon, OK; Matthew Mayben, Severance, CO; Kerisa Marx, Chadron, NE, Kolten Marx, Chadron, NE and Kaelob Marx, Hay Springs, NE. Great-grandchildren Trent and Sienna Mayben, Yukon, OK. Sister Marilyn Stults (Tom), Sheridan, WY and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his brother Don Marx and sister Ardene Burki Sees.
