Albert Leo Landreth was born November 7, 1929 in a sod house just northeast of Hay Springs, Nebraska as one of nine children to Alva and Eva (Polen) Landreth. In 1943 the family moved to the farm northwest of Rushville. Albert passed away at the Pioneer Manor in Hay Springs on March 25, 2025.
Albert went into the US Army in October of 1951 and worked as a cook in Alaska until discharged in October of 1953. While attending card parties he met Evelyn F Caparoon. On October 26, 1958 the couple married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rushville. To this union were born 8 children.
Early in the marriage, Albert and Evelyn moved to, and eventually purchased, the Bud Porter place where they made a home and farmed/ranched for the remainder of his life. Throughout his life Albert enjoyed many adventures. Most of these adventures involved his children and family. These adventures always seemed to include John Deere tractors, Chevy vehicles, hunting, fishing, playing cards and the farm. There were Hereford cattle, a few Angus bulls, lots of repairs and windmills, and Mom pulling Dad around the yard with the Farmhand starting another tractor. At 87 years of age he climbed a windmill for repairs so the summer cattle had water. He continued to do some farming with the old John Deere’s into his 90’s. Another activity he thoroughly enjoyed was kneading bread. He always said it was the only way he could get his hands clean.
Albert is survived by his wife Evelyn of 66+ years; his children Edward (Diane), Laura, Richard, Gary, Glenn, Karen (Todd Parriott) and Bryan; several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, step-great great grandchildren; brother-in-law Duane Cerny; along with loads of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by son Stephen, parents Alva and Eva Landreth, brothers Wilber, Lawrence, Lloyd (and Bertha), Floyd (and May) and Vern (and Velma Earline); sisters Thelma (and Bob) Walker, Barbara (and Charles) Krotz, Ethel (and Levi) Blair and Grace Cerny; father and mother-in-law Harry and Frieda Caparoon.
Services will be at 10 am on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Rushville, Nebraska with Pastor Allen Wierschke officiating. Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Rushville Volunteer Fire Department. Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron in charge of arrangements. And as Albert would say, “We’d better get a move on!”
